Sony Gran Turismo 5 on PS3 delayed indefinitely

Sony has delayed the launch of Gran Turismo 5 for the PS3, citing “production-related matters” as the cause.

The game was due to be released in Europe and America this summer but is already nearly three years overdue, and is rumoured to have cost £37m to develop.

The latest instalment of the massively popular driving simulation series, which was set to be released to a Japanese market in March, has been postponed for an undisclosed period of time with no new release date given.

Having reported sold in excess of 53 million units of the Gran Turismo titles to date; the fifth instalment of the flagship game  was set to be one of Sony’s most successful titles of the year.

Demos of GT5 have been showcased by Sony since the PS3 was first launched in 2006, leaving expectant gamers both salivating with excitement and disappointed by its lack of appearance.

Previous editions of the infamous game title have been hugely success throughout Europe and Japan but failed to achieve the same level of success in the states. As a result, Sony has incorporated Nascar stock cars into the upcoming title in an attempt to entice the American market.

Much speculation surrounds the reason for this latest delay to GT5’s release, from the sheer complexity of the game to a strategic plan from Sony to sell more consoles in the new fiscal year. Whatever the reason, this announcement has come as yet another blow to the gamers and fans who have eagerly awaited the arrival of this high-octane title for so long.
